Tufa formations of Mono Lake, the most alkaline lake in the world, but has the most life of any lake in north America. These formations are make from springs in the water, the reason you can see these out of the water is because of Los Angeles diverting the water that feeds the lake into the LA aqueduct instead. Though Mono Lake won't see the same fate at Owen's Lake, there's still a lot of controversy. [link] If any of the prints of this sell, 50% of profit will be donated to the Mono Lake committee.

The small pores in tufa provide excellent angles/moist mini caves, it's only natural it has the most life. Just like coral reefs grow on volcanic rock.
